Welcome to Red Loft Rubrics

This site is written and organised by Rod White

My students have been engaged in innovative learning experiences involving inquiry learning and the development of rubrics.

Together we have developed specific, measurable and realistic criteria, which guide them as they complete various learning tasks related to the writing process, oral performances, mathematical tasks and every other curriculum area. Rubrics break down criteria into a variety of levels allowing all students a valid entry point into their assessment tasks and thus maximizing their motivation and success. Learners can see where they have come from and where their future challenges lie.

In addition, teacher student interaction is at a higher level with students often determining what skills they need to develop. The ecology of the learning environment is a collaborative one where students are critical friends to each other.

Look at the Wimmera Professional Learning pages. There are over 25 excellent rubrics from a variety of curriculum areas. These have been written by teachers from North West Victorian Schools  and then edited by me.

Thanks for your comments. My Trigonometry rubric worked extremely well with my Year 9 class considering they had never used one before. I only had one student(male) who did not think it was any help. I will talk to him at lenght about his comment.
Chris.

Hi Pam and Katherine - the latest additions to the wiki. Thanks for your efforts. They show that you really used the information given to you. Did the children have much to do with creating them? Please send me some of the student's efforts.
